This is the Church of Santa Cecília, built in 1683. Cecilia is the patron saint of musicians because as she was dying she sang to her god. Therefore, in the facade, you can see a lyre.

Well, I was walking by the streets of downtown and I found this Church of Salesians, with blue sky and trees.

Solitude

The day dawned rainy in Recife on Monday. I was in my bicycle, I stopped near Church of Our Lady of Solitude and I took this pic. This church has a dark facade, not common in Recife. Ugly, I guess. A worker passes by bicycle, a girl gets off the bus.

Courtyard

This is the courtyard of the Saint Peter's Church in downtown of Recife. The courtyard and the church forms a very beautiful and rich architectonic group. There is an inscription above the church's door indicating the construction began in May, 3, 1728.

Paneled door / Porta com almofadas

Esta foto mostra a porta almofadada da Igreja de Santa Cruz, na cidade do Recife. As portas de igrejas antigas apresentam essas almofadas enormes. Almofada é como se chama essa peça de madeira saliente, que se encontra também em portas modernas, porém não com esse imenso relevo que se costumava usar nas igrejas. A Igreja de Santa Cruz está maltratada, mas ainda é bela e sua localização seria um espetáculo – no Largo de Santa Cruz – se o local não estivesse absolutamente desprezado. O Largo de Santa Cruz, em qualquer cidade mais civilizada que o Recife – seria um marco da cidade, como acontece em diversos pontos amplos do "casco antiguo" de Sevilla, por exemplo. Uma pena. Qualquer dia, coloco fotos da igreja toda, hoje quis apenas destacar a porta com almofadas.

Brazil was a Portugal colony and, therefore, inherited the Catholic religion, so we have a lot of churches made by Portugueses and Brazilians throughout of country. This picture shows the paneled door of Holy Cross Church, here in Recife. Panel (in portuguese “almofada”) is the name these protruding wood pieces. On another occasion, I will put pictures of whole church - the church is pretty much deteriorated.
